• Lake Apopka - Downtown Winter Garden with its shops and restaurants is on the south shore of Lake Apopka, one of the largest lakes in the state. Lake Apopka has several islands that are rookeries for wading birds. Friends of Lake Apopka are devoted to improving the water quality of this lake. The towns of Winter Garden and Oakland have lakefront homes on Lake Apopka.
